the Automation Update! (v1.2)

Took a long while, but here’s a brand new egg update with new egg features!!!!!!

Features

  • TV!
    • The TV lets you set your eggs down and entertain them! After purchasing it from the shop, new eggs will be able to spawn in with a new task!
  • Bots!
    • You can now purchase fully automated bots which can automatically perform all of the tasks for hatching an egg! Now you can multithread your egg hatching! For a price.
    • You can additionally purchase skins for them, customizing them to your liking.
  • Added 15 new creatures, bringing up the total to 60* creatures!
  • Weather!
    • Now every so often while hatching eggs you’ll encounter some form of weather. Rain, Fog, Wind and more are included.
    • Some additional tasks you’ll need to do in specific weather.
  • Settings!
    • Added a settings menu for you to adjust the volume and enter fullscreen! This probably should have been done earlier oops
    • You can turn off the background creatures aswell as the custom cursor this way, if you like.
  • Easter Eggs!
    • These little pesky eggs will pop up in various places once in a while, giving you small boosts and buffs if you find them in time.
    • You can find these just about anywhere - in the background, foreground, other screens…
    • Be sure to check the shop and collection once in a while for eggs!
  • Multiple save slots!
    • A quality of life feature that lets you keep seperate saves and switch them on a whim!
  • And more..?
    • Look out for even rarer variants of creatures…

Changes

  • Resprited nearly every creature in the game. Now rare variants of creatures have additional features or poses to distinguish themselves from their base counterparts.
  • Resprited Goopy.
  • Eggs have been made slightly easier to hatch overall.
    • Additionally, it’s now much easier to hatch creatures you haven’t before.
  • Added some new sound effects for the Dye Bowl and Incubator.
  • Added some new expression sprites for Plum.
  • Adjusted the background to be slightly easier on the eyes.
  • Titlescreen changes!
    • Minor, but it was long overdue for a do-over..
  • Adjusted the volume of certain sound effects to prevent earstrain.
  • Changed the Plum shop initial dialog, moving it to a proper dialog box.
  • Notes will no longer overflow with especially difficult eggs, making it scrollable instead.
  • Panning improvements:
    • Clicking or gestures are no longer necessary to switch screens; you can simply hold your mouse near the edge to move there.
    • You can now use A or D or the arrow keys to move between screens.
  • The shop will now only show you dyes after you’ve purchased the previous one.
  • You can now move saves over from the web build!
    • Open the pause menu, click “Export Save”, right click and copy, then head to your game and paste in the save at the titlescreen.
    • For transferring desktop saves, you don’t need to go through this - your saves will be stored in a folder as dictated by this table. Look for a folder called oatmealine.egg.
  • Slightly altered dumpster behavior.
  • Tutorial changes to make it harder to break.

Fixes

  • Dialog typos, clarification & fixes.
  • [Desktop only] Multithreaded saving, making the game not freeze when saving.
  • Fixed some instances where the game would unnecessarily save twice in a row.
  • Fix choppiness when slowing down the game during animations.
  • Fixed rendering issues when hatching eggs off-screen.
  • Exceptions during drawing are no longer caught, as this typically results in a much harder to diagnose crash shortly after.
  • Performance fixes:
    • Facilities are now culled.
    • Background creatures are now culled.
    • The game is now culled when a popover (shop, collection) is open.
    • Popovers are now culled when not open.
    • Note rendering is now cached.
    • Egg mask stencil rendering is now cached and done in bulk passes.
    • Misc. optimizations (vector optimizations, …)
  • Other miscellaneous bugs, crashes, infloops, etc.

Look out for a new update sometime soon after this one, with major changes to the game..!

This will be the last version supporting the Web version of the game, as maintaining it has become increasingly complicated for virtually no benefit; it’s severely slower, has several graphical issues and lesser capabilities than the desktop version. It’ll remain up as a “demo” version of the game, and past a certain point in the progression will require you to transfer your safe over to the desktop version to continue.
